Guests often ask us which route we recommend. As French motorways are well-maintained and far emptier than those in the UK, we suggest spending as little time as possible on the UK part of your journey.
The airports of Nantes, Tours and Poitiers are all approximately an hour and a half from Le Ruault. You can find flights on www.skyscanner.net from Stansted and London Gatwick all year round. Seasonal flights also operate to Nantes from Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh and Liverpool.
We have travelled from the UK by train. It took just shy of 6 hours from London St Pancras to Angers, changing in Paris. An alternative is to go via Lille. It is a longer journey but an easier change of train because you do not have to cross Paris, just change platform.
You can book through the trainline (www.trainline.com) and the fares are surprisingly reasonable - more than a low-cost flight but cheaper than many similar-length journeys in the UK.
Le Ruault is rural, so if you are flying out or travelling by train, you will need to hire a car for the duration of your stay. The usual car hire companies have counters at the airports and mainline stations.
